Charlie Davies on the move

Charlie Davies appears destined for a move away from Hammarby, with clubs from Germany (Hamburg) and France (Rennes, Sochaux and St. Etienne) all reportedly on the prowl for the speedy forward. Davies skills were on display when he scored his second international goal in a 3-0 win over Egypt in the Confederations Cup. The 23 year-old foward is one of the few holdovers from that team on the U.S. Gold Cup roster and scored in the opener last night against Grenada.

The transfer race for the U.S. forward has come down to two competitors, with a Ligue 1 club holding the inside track."We are in serious discussions with a French team, and they are in serious discussions with Hammarby over a fee," says his agent Lyle Yorks . "There is also one Bundesliga club in the discussion, but I think he will go to France. We are hoping to have this done in the next five days."

Another great move to a higher level of competition for a young American star. Davies is a strong candidate for the U.S. World Cup roster from what I've seen. I look forward to hearing where he finally ends up.
